I’ve had a little break from The Book Shelf over the last couple of months, but I’m back now and I was lucky enough to interview Anna Maynard for her glorious new romance novel ‘Flowers in July’ for my first interview after the break.
‘Flowers in July’ is one of those rare books with both characters who feel as real as your own friends and family, a plot that keeps you turning pages and a richly described setting. If you’re based in Hobart you’ll love reading about many familiar landmarks!
It’s an easy read, but not because it’s light or lacking substance. The writing style is absorbing with many beautifully crafted sentences, and the dialogue is perfectly fitted to character and often hilarious and at times deeply poignant. ‘Flowers in July’ is a story about a woman learning to prioritise her own needs, trust herself again, and discover that she doesn’t have to constantly hold it all together to be strong.
And don’t even get me started on the swoon worthy love interest. Abel is just… well you’ll have to read it.
