I teach the following workshops, tailored to both primary and secondary students, and adults. I am also available for one-on-one tutoring, or small group classes.
If you’re interested in booking or enquiring about any of these sessions, please send me an email at ariutas@gmail.com
For primary school kids:
-Building Your Character (3 hours)
This workshop is all about learning the foundational building blocks of character development. Through a series of exercises and brainstorming activities, students will come away with a character they can continue to work on in future writing projects.
For college students and adults:
-The Psychology of Character (3 hours)
A workshop to help writers explore and understand how psychology and landscape are intertwined, for writers to better develop their characters.
Ever wanted to learn how to harness the power of landscape to deepen your fictional characters? In this workshop you will learn about the array of possibilities landscape presents for character development. You’ll choose one of three scenarios to explore how your character’s psychology and life experience would affect their perception of and response to their environment.
–Gleaning Inspiration (2 hours)
This shorter workshop is all about learning to pay attention, both to the world around you, and to what makes your heart sing. You’ll learn to recognise what sparks that first, delicious inkling of an idea, and come away with a toolbox of easy, sustainable daily writing practices to hone your eye and ear.
A modified version of this workshop is also available for primary aged kids.
-Creating Unique Voices – a dialogue workshop (3 hours)
Dialogue is one of the trickiest parts of writing, but when done well, goes a long way in creating compelling characters. In this workshop writers will learn some helpful tips and tricks for developing a keen ear and ensuring their characters have distinct, memorable voices.
